Beau B. Burton, Ph.D., is a founding partner of Element IP. His practice focuses on patent procurement, post-grant proceedings, including inter partes reviews (IPRs) and ex parte re-examination, and patent validity and infringement opinions.
Beau’s seasoned background has seen him prosecute over a thousand applications, participate in over one hundred appeals, and successfully defend numerous patents in IPRs. He has extensive experience in obtaining and protecting his clients’ patent rights at every stage before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
He has built up an impressive catalogue of work, including experience with numerous Global 500 companies, start-ups, and individuals in the procurement of patents in the United States and abroad. His skillset has seen him work across a diverse range of technologies, including polymers, small molecules, pharmaceutical formulations, lubricants, metal alloys, paints, adhesives, thin film multilayers, nonaqueous electrolyte solutions, lithium batteries, and organic electroluminescence devices.
Prior to forming Element IP, Beau worked as a Senior Associate at Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, L.L.P. Preceding his time at Oblon, he was an Affiliate Professor of Chemistry at Loyola University Maryland.
